Torchwood-bloody excellent

I WAS sceptical, I admit it, when I heard the franchise was moving to the US—but it’s a joint BBC ANd US enterprise and there are series that the US do really really well – and I have to say that TW is looking fucking brilliant. If the BBC had it at the moment, it would probably be a 3 episode series, as that seems to be the standard at the moment. I have no idea what the USA number will be, BUT its taking its time and its running true to the original< and i’m loving it!!

What I’m Not Loving is a dance with dragons which is so dull I can’t bear it.  There will be a full and frank and frankly dull, spoilery review when i finish the damned thing, but as I am having to force myself to read any of it, god knows when that will be. If you want a lesson is how to write passive characters (who were previously not) and how to write "well, Bob" chapters, then you can do no better than to emulate GRRM. I can’t believe how cruddy it is.

Oh dear! Is DWD Martin’s equivalent of Order of the Phoenix, I wonder? Far too long in production and written because it had to be rather than because the words were boring their way out of his brain?

I’m at a bit of a loss with Torchwood: Miracle Day. Do you think Rex is supposed to be funny? I’ve been assuming he’s over acting horribly. But I’m very glad to see Rhys and Gwen again. And PC Andy.

that’s the feeling i get about DWD–it’s bloated to the extreme and the editing staff only had enough time to tidy up the text for typos, it looks like–either that or GRRM is doing a JKR and refusing to have story edits, and BOY it needed it. and then some. It could be half the book and twice as good, and then even though it would be dull. i’m on page600 and something and still nothing has hppened. snore.

I think Rex is supposed to be amusing in spots but he’s obviously the one that Jack is giong to lock horns with–i think it has potential!
